Today, I am going to share with you the story of Adrian Peterson, who successfully faced all the difficulties that came in his road to success. He was born on 21st of March 1985 in Texas to Nelson, a former Idaho State University basketball player and Bonita Jackson, a Texas state high school track and field champion. Adrian witnessed a couple of tragic moments in his life. When he was young, his elder brother Brian, was killed by a driver who was under the influence of liquor. After few years, his father was jailed for money laundering. Adrian was annoyed by these testing situations. But then he tried to concentrate on improving his game. Earlier, he used to do racing and play basketball at Palestine High School, but he was also very good in playing football. He won “National Player Of The Year Award” in numerous occasions and he also played for the University Of Oklahoma.
Adrian liked to compete. He topped the two hundred yard mark 3 times. In the year 2004, he stood 2nd in the Heisman Trophy race. He was also adjudged the highest finisher for a first year player and was named a consensus All-American. He was out for 11 games because of injuries in ankle and collarbone. He came back in the year 2007 for the National Football League. But as luck would have it, his half-brother, Chris was killed; a night before Adrian’s scheduled NFL scouting combine workout. But, then also he performed well in that game. He was ranked seven in the poll by Minnesota Vikings.
He was a star performer in the NFL and was adjudged “NFL Offensive Rookie Of The Year” in 2007. The next 3 to 4 years was not good for him. He was again injured in 2011 when the ligaments of his left knee were torn. He got his knee operated at the end of the year in 2011. He made an impressive comeback in 2012 NFL season. He was adjudged “NFL’S Most Valuable Player” for his performance. Later, it was learned that he was playing despite of the pain he had because of hernia.
His son died in October 2013 when he was attacked by Joseph Patterson who was dating the boy’s mother as stated by the police. All people were stunned to see the dedication of Adrian when he decided to play against the North Carolina Panthers just 2 days after his son’s death.
We can learn from the life of Adrian that success comes to those who are committed to greet it with open arms.
