Today, I am going to share with you the story of a renowned personality who surpassed all the difficulties that came her way and became a successful author of a series of books that became a sensation all over the world.
Joanne Kathleen Rowling who is better known as J.K. Rowling was born on 31st of July 1965 to Peter James Rowling and Anne Rowling in Gloucestershire, England. Her early life was not a cakewalk. Her mother died due to multiple sclerosis. Later, she went to Portugal, where she married a man who was a journalist by profession. She gave birth to a daughter. But her wedding was not successful, so she had no other option than to return back to Britain. She did not have enough money and she went on depression. She wanted to end her life as she was facing tough time. But soon she realized that ending the life given by God is not a good idea. So, she decided to face the difficulties with courage.
Once when she was traveling on a train to England that she discovered the idea of writing a book on a boy who later comes to know that he is a magician. She worked hard to write her first book named “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. But in the beginning, her book was refused by many publishers. But she did not lose hope and finally, Bloomsbury Children’s Books signed her up by paying her around Ten thousand pounds. Her maiden book was published in the year 1997 and was an instant hit among the readers.
Later Scholastic Books bought the American rights for around USD one lac. In the year 1998, it was published with the title “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”. Then in the year 1999, two of her books “Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” were published.
Later, in the year 2000, her fourth book “Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire” was published. Soon she became the highest earning woman in Britain, having around twenty million pounds. Later, Warner Brothers bought the rights to make movies on two of her books for a sum of around USD Seven lakh. When the first movie on Harry Potter was released, then her net worth was believed to be more than USD Hundred million.
The biography of J.K. Rowling teaches us that “A person with a new idea is a crank until the idea succeeds” as quoted by Mark Twain.
