Xiaomi, from China has forayed into the smartphone market in full gusto. It has developed e commerce for the smartphones and other devices full fledgedly, as per sources. The Head of Xiaomi says, the phone maker has also considered an investment in Indian startups for developing the ecosystem. Xiaomi thrives on the sale through Snapdeal, Flipkart and also through Amazon. It also sells through mi.com, its own portal.
Xiaomi will invest into setting up its own logistics, e commerce and warehouse. They also have an ecommerce outlet in mi.com. They have not planned any marketing campaigns in any way, they said. The company thrives on its thousand orders per day. Thus, they would be starting a developmental research center in Bengaluru. This should enhance the manufacture and sales of its products in India. However, the budget was kept a secret and not disclosed.
Xiaomi is in discussion with the different state governments for the setting up of the plant. The company is not thinking of manufacturing the phones through outsourcing them to another manufacturer contractually. They also have been talking to some established startups to invest in the setting up of the company.
Xiaomi has sold more than a million smartphones while its entry into the Indian market since June 2014. This makes them the fifth largest company in the domestic market scenario. The company came up with its first smartphone in August 2011. It has sold 61.1 million phones last year globally while in 2013 it was 18.7 million units.
