Oprah Gail Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954 in Mississippi to Vernita Lee and Vernon Winfrey, who was a coal miner by profession. She has seen very tough times in her life when she was finding it difficult to make both ends meet.
During her studying days, she won a scholarship to Tennessee State University. She also won Miss Black Tennessee beauty pageant in the year 1971.During her youth, she had to face very difficult situations. When she grew up, she went to Milwaukee. There she had one of the worst experiences of her life. Her male relatives repeatedly outraged her modesty. She was addicted to sex and drugs and she gave birth to a baby when she was fourteen years old but the baby died.Later on, she went to her father in Nashville. At the age of 19, she accepted a part time job as a reporter at a radio station in Nashville. Later on, she became an anchor at WTVF-TV. Then she joined WJZ-TV where, within a short span of time, she became a co-anchor.
Oprah accepted an offer of anchoring a Chicago morning talk show and her show became popular with the help of King World Syndicate and when she widened the working, then the money began flowing in and when she acquired a large downtown production company, then she became the third woman in the American entertainment industry to have her own studio. She is the richest black woman in the United States.Her show is popular because she is very open minded and she does not hesitate to share her bitter experiences with the people. She is one of the most effective persons in the world. She is the world’s most handsomely paid entertainer as reported by Forbes Magazine. She is mainly known as a talk show host but she has also acted in some movies.”Oprah’s Favourite Things” is very popular among T.V. viewers. She has the property of more than USD Two billion.
She is also very active for various social causes. “Oprah’s Angel Network” has accumulated around USD Fifty One million for several charities.
She gave around USD Forty billion to start “The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy For Girls” in the year 2007. She played a pivotal role in appointing Mr. Obama as the president of U.S.A.
She also has a production company named Harpo Productions. She also received the “Best Supporting Actress” Oscar nomination for “The Color Purple”.
